Because of this Frigg went to get oaths from all things on earth would not harm Baldr. After all had taken an oath the gods made a game of throwing objects at Baldr knowing none would harm him as they all bounced off of him. Loki then disguised himself as a woman and asked Frigg if all had taken an oath which she replied all but the mistletoe but Frigg thought it to young and harmless to threaten Baldr. Loki then persuaded Hodr, the blind God to throw mistletoe at Baldur in sport of the new game. The dart pierced Baldr and he died instantly. Bitter and upset Frigg begged someone to ride down to Hel and ask for Baldr to be released. Hermod, another son of Odin spoke up and said he would travel down to Helheim and rode Sleipnir to the underworld. Meanwhile the gods took Baldrs body and gave him a beautiful funeral. His pyre was built of his ship Hringhorni where I giantess pushed him to the sea as all came to the funeral. Nanna died of grief and was laid beside him as well as his horse. Odin laid Draupnir upon him as a final gift. Hermod made it to Helheim where Hel sat upon her throne with Baldr beside her. She agreed to release him only if all things in the world living and dead would weep for Baldr. If any refuse then he was to remain with her. Baldr gave him Draupnir to return to Odin and Hermod bid farewell. All did indeed weep for Baldr except for one giantress who was no other thank Loki in disguise. Fearing that he would have no mercy from the gods Loki fled and turned himself into a salmon, only to be caught by the gods with his own design for a net. He was bound to three flat stones where he was left to writhe beneath the mouth of a snake which dripped poison onto his face. His wife Sigyn sits there to catch the poison drops.
